Kokkoku｜Plain

Cocon's timeless classic, the plain rep fabric "Kokkoku."
Since our establishment, we have continuously refined and perfected this fabric, making it our most confidently recommended jinme-ori weave. It is an ultra-high-density woven fabric created with specialized machinery.
Its ridges embody a serene beauty reminiscent of the sand ripples in a Japanese dry landscape garden. The dedication to meticulously crafting the most beautiful ridges, employing the highest level of technology, and passing it down through generations – that is the spirit encapsulated in Kokkoku.

Extreme Density Fabric and Special Finishing Process

This bow tie, like our high-end Seven-Fold ties, uses the "Kokkoku" fabric, which is woven by beating the weft threads at an extremely high density – unheard of for regular silk fabrics – using the finest silk yarn.
Fabric woven with such extreme density makes it very difficult for needles to pass through during sewing, making hand-stitching incredibly challenging. Additionally, stiff fabric can affect the comfort of wearing the tie and lead to issues like creasing after the product is made.
To resolve these problems, we apply a special finishing process after weaving the fabric, tailored to the product. This resolves various issues.
Furthermore, after the finishing process, all fabrics undergo rigorous inspection using tools like a linen tester (tabletop loupe) before being made into products.

Yarn and Dyeing Bearing the Name of a Goddess

The raw silk yarn used is carefully selected, top-grade 6A natural silk.
This highest grade 6A raw yarn is in a class of its own, bearing the name "Flora" – after the Roman goddess of flowers, spring, and fertility – and comes with a certification. As its name suggests, "Flora" silk is extremely high quality and rare, sourced from cocoons harvested in spring, the season with the highest quality, and stands out even among 6A grade silks.
The silk threads created from this are then meticulously dyed by skilled artisans at a long-established Kyoto dye house, which has been responsible for Japanese dyeing since ancient times, without any compromise. Craftsmen with extensive knowledge and years of dyeing expertise take their time to carefully dye the threads, resulting in truly unique silk threads.

Color

The fabric for this product is woven using rare silk top yarn, which undergoes twice as many processes as regular silk yarn, and two types of silk yarn of different thicknesses. By crushing multiple colors of silk once and re-spinning them into yarn, we create a unique silk top yarn with a distinctive luster and melange effect. We then add two more shades of gray to this yarn during weaving, resulting in a deep heather charcoal gray unlike any other.

Tailoring

Commitment to Self-Tie Bow Ties

Bow ties come in two types: those with pre-tied wings and those that you tie yourself. While pre-tied bow ties always maintain a neat shape, COCON has only produced self-tie bow ties since its inception, as we want you to enjoy the casual knot. Like the dimple of a Seven-Fold tie, please enjoy the sophisticated styling where the expression changes with each knot.

Completely Original Pattern

Upon rebooting the brand, we created new patterns from scratch, conducted numerous prototypes, and ultimately selected two patterns.
One is a bow tie with slightly larger wings (standard model) that creates a glamorous V-zone, and the other is a narrower bow tie (narrow model) that pairs well with modern jackets with narrow lapels.
This product uses the former, the standard model pattern with larger wings.

Each piece is carefully tailored by skilled craftsmen in Kyoto with exceptional technique. Except for areas that must be sewn by machine, everything is handmade, resulting in a product that embodies a warm, handcrafted feel.

Auxiliary Materials

Original Metal Parts

COCON's bow tie metal parts are meticulously crafted one by one by skilled artisans at a specialized metal processing workshop in Tokyo, which has been responsible for producing high-end accessories and parts for renowned domestic and international brands for many years.
Ready-made metal parts commonly used for bow ties are typically around 0.5mm thick and can bend if slight pressure is applied. To enhance strength and safety, COCON uses 1mm thick brass, double the thickness of ready-made parts, and has created all three types of parts—the hook, convex, and loop clasps—from custom molds.
Additionally, the COCON brand logo is engraved on the hook clasp, and all parts are finished with a lustrous nickel plating.

Ultra-High Density Echizen Woven Label

The brand tags and quality tags used in our products are Echizen woven labels, crafted by a Fukui Prefecture weaving label manufacturer with outstanding technology.
For bow ties, similar to Seven-Fold and Three-Fold ties, we adjust the tag position to achieve the most beautiful balance without being conspicuous.
Furthermore, to showcase the high level of Japanese weaving technology, we challenge ourselves to express brand logos, QR codes, and washing instructions at the world's smallest level.
Using ultra-fine threads, we have made continuous improvements so that each character, though small, is clearly recognizable.
While it may seem like a minor detail, high-level Japanese technology is hidden here as well.

Gift Box

Book-Style Pasted Box

Our self-tie bow ties come in a book-style V-cut box. This gift box is meticulously crafted one by one by skilled artisans at a paper container manufacturer in Hokkaido with exceptional technique. It is a book-style V-cut box made from fine paper (FSC certified paper) characterized by a gentle, hammered-like embossed pattern. The brand logo is debossed with clear foil on the top and sides, and the interior of the box has a two-layer structure with an insert to prevent the bow tie from shifting. We express our worldview not only through beauty but also by combining the joy of opening, the sound when closing, and the function of protecting the tie.

Storage Method

After use, please hang it in a well-ventilated, dark place to dry the fabric and restore any wrinkles. Please be aware that direct sunlight can cause discoloration or fading. If wrinkles are a concern when untying and retying, please use a steamer or iron with steam for maintenance.
