Fabric and Material

Kokkoku | Solid

Cocon's timeless classic, "Kokkoku" (moment by moment), a solid rep fabric.
This is the jimme-ori (figured weave) fabric that we are most proud to recommend, having been refined through countless improvements since our founding. It is a fabric finished with an ultra-high density weave using special equipment.
Its ridges possess a serene beauty reminiscent of the sand patterns in a karesansui (dry landscape) garden. To create the most beautiful ridges possible, we meticulously engrave the highest level of technology, passing it down through generations—this is the sentiment behind Kokkoku.

Extreme Density Weave and Special Finishing Process

This bow tie, like our high-end settapiege ties, uses "Kokkoku" fabric, which is woven with the finest silk threads, but with an extraordinarily high density of weft threads, unlike any conventional silk fabric.
Fabric woven to such extreme density makes it incredibly difficult for needles to pass through during sewing, making hand-stitching very challenging. Additionally, the fabric becomes stiff, affecting the comfort of the tie when worn, and can easily show wear marks after the product is completed.
To resolve these issues, a special finishing process is applied after the fabric is woven, specifically tailored to the product, thereby eliminating these various problems.
Furthermore, after the finishing process, all fabrics undergo strict inspection using tools such as linen testers (tabletop magnifiers) before being made into products.

Yarn Bearing the Name of a Goddess and Dyeing

The raw silk yarn used is carefully selected, top-grade 6A natural silk.
This highest-grade 6A raw silk is in a class of its own. The raw silk itself is named "Flora," after the Roman goddess of flowers, spring, and fertility, and comes with a certificate. As its name suggests, "Flora" silk is extremely high quality and rare, harvested from cocoons in spring, the season with the highest quality, and outstanding even among 6A grade silks.
The pure silk threads produced from this are then dyed by artisans at a long-established dyeing workshop in Kyoto, a traditional center of Japanese dyeing, without any compromise. By carefully and meticulously dyeing over time, artisans with extensive knowledge and years of dyeing experience create truly unique pure silk threads.

Color

Based on Cocon's concept of the best "Azzurro e Marrone," we use fabric made from carefully selected deep chestnut-brown (Brown B70) pure silk yarn. Aiming for a Marrone (brown) that matches Azzurro (blue/navy) jackets, we intentionally weave with black warp threads to prevent the color from becoming too sweet. Furthermore, it pairs excellently not only with Azzurro e Marrone but also with gray jackets.

Tailoring

Commitment to Self-Tie Bow Ties

Bow ties come in two types: those with pre-tied wings and those that you tie yourself. While pre-tied bow ties always look neat and tidy, COCON has exclusively produced self-tie bow ties since its inception, as we want you to enjoy the charm of a casually tied knot. Just like the dimple of a settapiege tie, enjoy the chic styling where the expression changes with each knot.

Completely Original Pattern

When rebooting the brand, we created new patterns from scratch, went through repeated prototyping, and finally selected two patterns.
One is a slightly larger bow tie (standard model) that creates a glamorous V-zone, and the other is a slimmer bow tie (narrow model) that pairs well with modern jackets with narrow lapels.
This bow tie uses the latter, the narrow model pattern with slender wings.

Each tie is meticulously crafted by skilled artisans in Kyoto. Aside from parts that absolutely require machine stitching, everything is handmade. The result is a tie that embodies the warmth of human touch.

Original Metal Parts

COCON's bow tie metal parts are meticulously crafted one by one by skilled artisans at a metal processing workshop in Tokyo, which has been responsible for producing high-end accessories and parts for renowned domestic and international brands for many years.
Standard metal parts commonly used for bow ties are about 0.5mm thick and can bend easily under slight pressure. To enhance strength and safety, COCON uses 1mm thick brass, which is twice the thickness of standard metal parts, and all three types of parts—the hook, the convex ring, and the loop—are custom-made from molds.
Additionally, the brand logo is engraved on the hook, and all parts are finished with a lustrous nickel plating.

Ultra-High Density Echizen-Ori Woven Label

The brand tag and quality tag used in our products are Echizen-ori woven labels, crafted by a woven label manufacturer in Fukui Prefecture with outstanding technology.
For bow ties, similar to settapiege and trepiege ties, the tag's position is adjusted to achieve the most beautiful balance without being conspicuous.
Furthermore, to convey the high level of Japanese weaving technology, we challenge ourselves to express brand logos, QR codes, and washing instructions at the world's smallest level.
Using ultra-fine threads, we have made continuous improvements so that each character, though small, can be clearly recognized.
While it may not be something you usually pay much attention to, this is another place where Japan's proud high technology is hidden.

Gift Box

Book-Style Pasted Box

Our self-tie bow ties come in a book-style V-cut box. This gift box is meticulously crafted one by one by a paper product manufacturer in Hokkaido with exceptional skill. It is a book-style V-cut box made from fine paper (FSC forest certified paper) featuring a gentle embossed pattern reminiscent of fine hammering. The brand logo is hot-stamped in clear foil on the top and sides, and the inside of the box has a two-layer structure with a central platform to prevent the bow tie from moving. Beyond its beauty, it expresses our worldview by offering the joy of opening, the sound when closed, and the function of protecting the tie.

Storage Method

After use, please hang the tie in a well-ventilated, dark place to dry the fabric and allow wrinkles to recover. Please note that direct sunlight may cause fading or discoloration. If you are concerned about wrinkles when untying and re-tying the knot, please maintain it with a steamer or iron steam.
