Fabric and Material

Koku-Koku | Solid
Our timeless classic, the rep fabric "Koku-Koku" in solid color.
This is our most confidently recommended jinme-ori (ribbed weave) fabric, perfected through numerous improvements since our establishment.
It is a fabric woven with ultra-high density using special equipment. For this Sette Pieghe model, we have adopted a unique buffer structure made of spun silk throughout the back to reduce fabric marks.
Its ribs exhibit an orderly beauty reminiscent of "kare-sansui" (Japanese dry landscape garden) sand patterns.
The name Koku-Koku embodies our desire to painstakingly engrave the finest techniques to create the most beautiful ribs possible, and pass them down to future generations.

Extreme Weave Density and Special Finishing Process
"Koku-Koku" is woven by inserting the weft threads with extremely high density, far beyond what is normally possible for silk fabrics, using the finest silk threads.
Fabrics woven with such extreme density are very difficult to sew by hand, as needles cannot pass through them.
Additionally, the fabric can be stiff, affecting the comfort of tying the tie, and prone to marks after the product is finished.
To resolve these issues, a special finishing process is applied after weaving. Especially for Sette Pieghe, where a natural tying comfort is crucial, we employ a unique finishing process tailored to ties, which is not commonly used, to address these various problems.
Furthermore, after the finishing process, all fabrics undergo a strict inspection using a linen tester (tabletop loupe) before being made into products.

Thread Named After a Goddess and Dyeing
The raw silk yarn used is carefully selected top-grade 6A natural silk.
This top-grade 6A raw yarn is in a class of its own; the raw yarn itself is named "Flora," after the Roman goddess of flowers, spring, and fertility, and comes with a certificate of authenticity. As its name suggests, "Flora" silk cocoons harvested in spring, when the quality is highest among all seasons, boast outstanding quality even within the 6A grade, making it exceptionally fine and rare silk.
The pure silk yarn produced from this silk is then dyed without compromise by skilled artisans at a long-established dye house in Kyoto, which has been responsible for Japanese dyeing since ancient times. Through the painstaking dyeing process by artisans with extensive knowledge and years of dyeing expertise, a truly unique pure silk yarn is created.

Color
The fabric of this product uses Level 7 black silk thread. Super black, which is said to be blacker than regular black, is usually around dyeing level 5, but the thread used here is dyed to an even higher level, Level 7. This Level 7 black, considered the highest black dyeing level, creates a deeper black hue and a sense of luxury.

Tailoring

Handmade by Skilled Artisans
Each tie is meticulously handmade by skilled artisans. As only one tie can be produced per day, there may be irregular restocks. We deliver a gem of a tie, crafted with utmost care in materials, patterns, sewing, and auxiliary materials.
Currently, artisans capable of tailoring genuine Sette Pieghe in Japan are extremely rare, making Japanese handmade Sette Pieghe exceptionally precious items. Each Sette Pieghe tie, carefully handmade by skilled artisans, possesses a unique plump appearance characteristic of handmade items, exuding a distinct presence not found in machine-made ties. Furthermore, the tying comfort differs from ordinary ties, allowing you to enjoy a three-dimensional knot and elegant dimple.
~ What is Sette Pieghe? ~
Originating in Italy, Sette Pieghe is a traditional tie whose name means "Sette (seven)" and "Pieghe (folds)" in Italian, and is called a "Seven Fold Tie" in English.
As the name suggests, it is crafted with seven folds, using approximately twice the amount of fabric as a regular tie, and each one is carefully made by hand by skilled artisans.
While "seven folds" might sound simple, the manufacturing method is extremely difficult, requiring the artisan to understand the characteristics of each fabric and thread by touch, and to fold and tailor them in a balanced manner. Furthermore, to create a soft, three-dimensional look, every stitch is sewn by hand. Due to the high level of craftsmanship and the enormous amount of time and effort required, Sette Pieghe ties are considered special.

Reverse-Fold Sette Pieghe
While conventional Sette Pieghe ties are folded so that the fabric overlaps on the front side, Cocon adopts a unique tailoring method that folds in the opposite direction (towards the back side with the brand tag). This is an original Cocon specification devised to minimize fabric marks after tailoring.

Hidden Bar Tack & Horseshoe Bar Tack
We use uniquely specified bar tacks at two locations on the reverse side. The image shows the horseshoe-shaped bar tack on the small blade.
On the back of the large blade, there is a hidden vertically woven bar tack made of 100% silk high-twist yarn, invisible from the outside. On the back of the small blade, a horseshoe-shaped woven bar tack made of French cotton embroidery thread is used. These bar tacks serve the functional role of firmly securing the left and right fabrics, and also act as a decorative design embodying the artisan's skill and aesthetic sense.
Both are original details conceived by Cocon, symbolizing the artisan's technique with a three-dimensional quality and presence that can only be achieved through meticulous handmade tailoring.
Furthermore, in this Sette Pieghe model, these bar tacks are set as high as possible to facilitate natural distortion and draping.
In addition, you can fully enjoy the highly skilled tailoring (7 folds) hidden within.

Industry's First Disposable Interlining
The Sette Pieghe uses a unique, industry-first disposable interlining developed by Cocon. This interlining is inserted until it reaches your hands to prevent the characteristic folds of the Sette Pieghe from creating marks on the outer fabric. You yourself will remove it before use.
Please enjoy this meticulous ritualistic moment as well.
~ Please follow these steps to remove the disposable interlining before use ~
1. Locate the white basting thread in the middle of the tie (at the diagonal seam).
2. Slowly pull out this thread to release the black disposable interlining inside the tie.
3. Gently and carefully pull out the black interlining visible on the back of the large blade.

Auxiliary Materials

Ultra-High Density Echizen Ori Woven Label
The brand tags and quality tags used in our products are Echizen Ori woven labels, crafted by a Fukui Prefecture woven label manufacturer with outstanding technology.
For the Sette Pieghe model, since the bar tack position is higher compared to the Tre Pieghe, the tag position is adjusted to achieve the most beautiful balance according to this unique design.
Furthermore, to convey the high level of Japanese weaving technology, we challenge ourselves to express brand logos, QR codes, and washing instructions at the world's smallest level. By using ultra-fine threads, we have repeatedly improved them so that each character is clearly discernible despite their small size. While this may be an aspect often overlooked, it is another place where Japan's proud advanced technology is hidden.

Asymmetric Braided Loop (Kaku Yatsu-gumi × Tsuri Yotsu-gumi)
The loop on the back of the tie, also known as the small blade keeper, is generally made using the same fabric as the main body.
However, Cocon uses a loop made with traditional Japanese braiding techniques. This braided loop is carefully crafted one by one for Cocon by a long-established braiding workshop in Kyoto, making it a completely original specification.
This Sette Pieghe tie features an asymmetrical loop made from two types of braids: Kaku Yatsu-gumi and Tsuri Yotsu-gumi.
Although using two types of braids adds to the effort and cost, by intentionally tailoring a symmetrical structure into an asymmetrical one, we express dynamism and freedom.
Furthermore, since "asymmetry" symbolizes "incompleteness," this is a special specification that embodies our desire to continue to grow.
Gift Box

Lid and Base Box (Set-Up Box)
The Sette Pieghe model features a V-cut lid and base box.
This box is meticulously crafted one by one by a Hokkaido paper product manufacturer with exceptional skill. It uses fine paper (FSC certified forest paper) characterized by a gentle hammered pattern-like embossing. The brand logo is hot-stamped in clear foil on the top and sides, and the side of the lid is circularly cut out to reveal the side logo.
Furthermore, the inside of the box has a two-layer structure with a middle insert to prevent the tie from being crushed, and it is gently wrapped in special paper as if enveloped in cloth.
This results in packaging that not only offers beauty but also the joy of opening and the function of protecting the tie, embodying our world view.
Storage Method
After use, hang the tie in a well-ventilated, dark place to allow the fabric to dry and wrinkles to restore. Please be careful as direct sunlight may cause discoloration or fading.
Additionally, to prevent fabric marks (pressure marks on the fabric) on Sette Pieghe ties, please hang them so that they do not touch other objects as much as possible.
