Fabric and Material

Koku | Solid
Cocon's universal classic, the repp fabric "Koku" (meaning "moment by moment") in a solid color.
This is our most confidently recommended jinme-ori fabric, perfected through numerous improvements since our founding.
Woven with a special device to achieve ultra-high density, this Sette Pieghe model features a unique buffer structure made of spun silk yarn across the entire back to reduce fabric marks.
Its ridges possess an orderly beauty reminiscent of the "sand patterns in a Japanese dry garden." This commitment to meticulously weaving the most beautiful ridges, embedding the finest techniques, and passing them down to future generations is the sentiment embodied in "Koku."

Extremely Densely Woven Fabric and Special Finishing Process
"Koku" is woven by using the highest quality silk threads and an extraordinarily high density of weft threads, a density unheard of in conventional silk weaving.
Fabric woven to such an extreme density makes it incredibly difficult for needles to pass through during sewing, making hand-stitching very challenging.
Furthermore, stiff fabric can affect the tying comfort of the tie, and there's a problem of fabric marks appearing after the product is completed.
To resolve these issues, a finishing process is applied after weaving. Especially for Sette Pieghe, where a natural feel when tying is crucial, a special, unconventional finishing process is used to address these various problems.
Moreover, after the finishing process, all fabrics undergo strict inspection using a linen tester (tabletop magnifying glass), etc., before being manufactured into products.

Yarn and Dyeing Named After a Goddess
The raw silk yarn used is carefully selected, top-grade 6A natural silk.
This highest-grade 6A raw yarn stands apart from other raw yarns; the yarn itself is named "Flora," after the Roman goddess who presides over flowers, spring, and abundance, and comes with a certificate of authenticity. True to its name, the cocoons harvested in spring, when the quality is highest among the four seasons, boast exceptional quality even within the 6A rank, making it extremely fine and rare silk.
The pure silk thread made from this is then dyed by artisans at a long-established dye house in Kyoto, a region historically responsible for Japanese dyeing, with absolutely no compromise. Through the careful and time-consuming dyeing process by artisans with extensive knowledge and years of experience, a truly unique pure silk thread is completed.

Color
Based on Cocon's concept of the best "Azzurro e Marrone," we use fabric made with carefully selected dark chestnut brown (brown B70) pure silk yarn. To achieve a marrone (brown) that matches azzurro (blue/navy) jackets without being too sweet, we intentionally weave it with black warp threads. In addition to azzurro e marrone, it also pairs exceptionally well with gray jackets.

Tailoring

Handmade by Skilled Artisans
Each piece is meticulously crafted by skilled artisans. As only one can be produced per day, irregular arrivals may occur. We deliver a gem of a tie, meticulously crafted in every aspect from material and pattern to sewing and auxiliary materials.
Currently, artisans capable of making authentic Sette Pieghe in Japan are extremely rare, making Japanese handmade Sette Pieghe an exceptionally rare item. Sette Pieghe carefully handcrafted by skilled artisans possess a plump, handmade texture and a unique presence not found in machine-made ties. Furthermore, the tying experience differs from ordinary ties, allowing you to enjoy a three-dimensional knot and an elegant dimple.
~What is Sette Pieghe?~
A traditional tie originating from Italy, "Sette Pieghe" means "seven folds" in Italian, and is called a "Seven Fold Tie" in English.
As the name suggests, it is crafted with seven folds, using about twice the amount of fabric as a regular tie, and each one is carefully made by hand by skilled artisans.
Simply hearing "seven folds" might sound easy, but the manufacturing method is extremely difficult, requiring an understanding of the characteristics of each fabric and thread through touch, and carefully folding and tailoring them in a balanced manner. Furthermore, to create a soft, three-dimensional look, each stitch is sewn by hand. Due to the high level of craftsmanship and the immense time and effort required, Sette Pieghe are considered special.

Reverse Fold Sette Pieghe
While typical Sette Pieghe ties are folded so that the fabric overlaps on the front side, Cocon adopts a unique tailoring method that folds it in the opposite direction (towards the back side where the brand tag is attached). This is an original Cocon specification devised to minimize fabric creasing after tailoring.

Hidden Bar Tack & Horseshoe Bar Tack
Two unique "bar tack" stitches are used on the back side. The image shows the horseshoe shape on the small blade.
On the back of the large blade, there's a hidden vertical bar tack made from 100% silk high-twist yarn, invisible from the outside. On the back of the small blade, there's a horseshoe-shaped bar tack made from French cotton embroidery thread. These bar tacks not only serve the functional role of securely fastening the left and right fabrics but also act as a decorative design imbued with the artisan's skill and aesthetic sense.
Both are original details conceived by Cocon, symbolizing artisanal skill with their three-dimensional quality and presence, achievable only through meticulous handmade tailoring.
Furthermore, in this Sette Pieghe model, by setting these bar tacks as high as possible, natural distortions and drapes are easily created.
Beyond that, you can fully appreciate the highly skilled tailoring (seven folds) hidden within.

Industry-First Removable Interlining
For Sette Pieghe, Cocon has developed an industry-first removable interlining. This interlining is inserted to prevent the characteristic folds of the Sette Pieghe from creating marks on the outer fabric until the tie reaches the customer's hands. Customers are meant to remove it themselves before use.
Please enjoy this meticulous ritualistic moment as well.
~Please remove the removable interlining by following the steps below before use~
1. Locate the white basting thread in the middle of the tie (at the diagonal seam).
2. Gently pull this thread to release the black removable interlining inside the tie.
3. Gently and carefully pull out the black interlining visible on the back of the large blade.

Auxiliary Materials

Ultra-High Density Echizen Woven Brand Label
The brand tags and quality tags used in our products are Echizen woven labels, crafted by a weaving label manufacturer in Fukui Prefecture known for their outstanding technique.
For the Sette Pieghe model, since the bar tack position is higher compared to Tre Pieghe, we adjust the tag position to achieve the most beautiful balance in line with this unique design.
Additionally, to convey the high level of Japan's weaving technology, we challenge ourselves to express brand logos, QR codes, and washing instructions at the world's smallest level. We repeatedly improved the process using ultra-fine threads so that each character, though small, can be clearly recognized. While it may be a detail not usually noticed, it is another hidden example of Japan's proud advanced technology.

Asymmetrical Braided Loop (Square Eight-Braid × Hanging Four-Braid)
The loop attached to the back of a tie, also known as a keeper loop, is generally made from the same fabric as the main body.
However, at Cocon, we use a loop crafted using the traditional Japanese kumihimo (braiding) technique. This kumihimo loop is meticulously made one by one for Cocon by a long-established kumihimo workshop in Kyoto, making it a completely original specification.
This Sette Pieghe tie features an asymmetrical loop made from two types of kumihimo: square eight-braid and hanging four-braid.
While using two types of braids incurs more effort and cost, intentionally crafting an asymmetrical structure (instead of symmetrical) expresses dynamism and freedom.
Furthermore, as "asymmetry" symbolizes "incompleteness," it is a special specification imbued with our desire to continue growing.
Gift Box

Telescopic Covered Box
For the Sette Pieghe model, we use a telescopic V-cut box.
This gift box is meticulously crafted one by one by a paper container manufacturer in Hokkaido known for its exceptional skill. It uses fine paper (FSC-certified forest paper) characterized by a delicate hammered texture resembling small hammer marks. The brand logo is embossed with clear foil on the top and sides, and the side of the lid is circularly cut out so that the side logo is visible.
Furthermore, the inside of the box has a two-layer structure with a core board to prevent the tie from being crushed, and it is also gently wrapped in a special paper as if enveloped in cloth.
These elements create a packaging that not only offers beauty but also the joy of opening and the function of protecting the tie, embodying our worldview.
Storage Method
After use, please hang the tie in a well-ventilated, dark place to allow the fabric to dry and wrinkles to restore. Please be aware that direct sunlight can cause discoloration or fading.
Also, to prevent creases (pressure marks on the fabric) from appearing on Sette Pieghe ties, please store them hanging, making sure they do not touch other objects as much as possible.
