Handmade Sette Piege Tie - Kokkoku Plain - Heather Charcoal Gray
Enjoy timeless classics with the finest tailoring
This Sette Piege model uses the "Kokkoku Plain" rep fabric.
Simple yet versatile, this tie can be easily paired with any suit or jacket.
Moreover, the ribbed texture unique to densely woven fabric gives it a rich expression despite being plain, exuding a significant presence. We highly recommend this product to those who felt something was lacking in conventional ties, or who seek the distinctive texture and special feel of handmade items.
Furthermore, it is a special tie that is unlikely to be duplicated, making it an excellent gift for those who are well-versed in Sette Piege.
Fabric and Material

Kokkoku Plain
Cocon's timeless classic, the plain rep fabric "Kokkoku."
This is the tatewaki-ori (warp-faced weave) fabric we are most proud to recommend, perfected through numerous improvements since our establishment.
It is a fabric finished with an ultra-high-density weave using special equipment, and for this Sette Piege model, a unique buffer structure made of spun silk is used across the entire back to reduce fabric abrasion.
Its ridges possess an orderly beauty reminiscent of the "sand ripples of a karesansui (dry landscape garden)."
The desire to create the most beautiful possible ridges, to meticulously engrave the finest techniques, and to pass them on to future generations—such sentiments are embodied in Kokkoku.

Extreme Weave Fabric and Special Finishing Process
"Kokkoku" is woven using the highest quality silk threads, with an unprecedentedly high density of weft threads for silk textiles.
Fabric woven with extreme density makes it very difficult for needles to pass through during sewing, making hand-sewing challenging.
Additionally, the fabric can be stiff, affecting the comfort of the tie when worn, and can be prone to pressure marks after the product is made.
To address these issues, a finishing process is applied after weaving. Especially for Sette Piege, where a natural feel is crucial, a unique special finishing process not typically used for ties is applied to resolve these various problems.
Furthermore, after the finishing process, all fabrics undergo rigorous inspection using tools such as a linen tester (tabletop loupe) before being made into products.

Yarn and Dyeing Bearing the Name of a Goddess
The raw silk yarn used is carefully selected, top-grade 6A natural silk.
This top-grade 6A raw yarn is in a class of its own, bearing the name of the Roman goddess of flowers, spring, and fertility, "Flora," and comes with a certificate of authenticity. True to its name, "Flora," the cocoons harvested in spring, when the quality is highest, boast exceptional quality even among 6A grade silks, making it extremely fine and rare.
The pure silk yarn produced from this is then meticulously dyed by artisans at a long-established dyeing factory in Kyoto, which has been responsible for Japanese dyeing since ancient times. With extensive knowledge and years of dyeing expertise, the artisans take their time to carefully dye the yarn, creating truly unique pure silk yarn.

Color
The fabric for this product is woven using rare silk top yarn, which undergoes twice as many processes as regular silk yarn, and two types of pure silk yarn of different thicknesses. By crushing multiple silk colors once and re-spinning them into yarn, a unique luster and mélange effect are achieved in the silk top yarn. By further adding two shades of gray, we have created a heather charcoal gray with unparalleled depth.

Tailoring

Handmade by Skilled Artisans
Each piece is meticulously tailored by skilled artisans. Due to the limited production of one tie per day, arrivals may be irregular. We deliver a masterpiece that embodies our unwavering commitment to materials, patterns, sewing, and accessories.
Currently, artisans capable of making authentic Sette Piege in Japan are extremely rare, making handmade Sette Piege from Japan exceptionally scarce. Each Sette Piege tie, carefully handmade by skilled artisans, possesses the characteristic voluminous appearance of handmade items and a unique presence not found in machine-made ties. Furthermore, the feel when worn differs from regular ties, allowing you to enjoy a three-dimensional knot and elegant dimple.
~What is Sette Piege?~
An Italian-originated traditional tie, "Sette" means "seven" and "Pieghe" means "folds" in Italian, and it is called "Seven Fold Tie" in English.
As its name suggests, it is tailored with seven folds, using approximately twice the amount of fabric of a regular tie, and is meticulously crafted one by one by skilled artisans.
While simply hearing "seven folds" might sound easy, the manufacturing method is extremely difficult, requiring an understanding of the characteristics of each fabric and thread through tactile sensation, and carefully folding and tailoring them in a balanced manner. Furthermore, to create a soft and three-dimensional appearance, each stitch is sewn by hand. Due to the high level of craftsmanship and the enormous amount of time and effort required, Sette Piege is considered a special item.

Reverse-Fold Sette Piege
While typical Sette Piege ties are folded so that the fabric overlaps on the front side, Cocon adopts a unique tailoring method that folds in the opposite direction (towards the back side where the brand tag is attached). This is Cocon's original specification, devised to minimize fabric abrasion after tailoring.

Hidden Bar Tack & Horseshoe Bar Tack
We use uniquely designed "bar tacks" in two places on the back. The image shows the horseshoe shape on the narrow end.
On the back of the wide end, there's a hidden vertical woven bar tack made of 100% highly twisted silk yarn, invisible from the outside. And on the back of the narrow end, we use a horseshoe-shaped woven bar tack made from French cotton embroidery thread. These bar tacks serve a functional role in firmly securing the left and right fabrics, and also act as decorative designs imbued with the artisan's skill and aesthetic sense.
Both are original details conceived by Cocon, symbolizing the craftsmanship that can only be achieved through meticulous handmade tailoring, possessing a three-dimensional quality and presence.
Furthermore, in this Sette Piege model, by setting these bar tacks as high as possible, we make it easier to create natural distortion and drape.
Beyond that, you can fully appreciate the highly skilled tailoring (seven folds) hidden inside.

Industry-First Removable Core
Sette Piege uses an industry-first removable core, originally devised by Cocon. This core is inserted to prevent the characteristic folds of Sette Piege fabric from creating pressure marks on the outer fabric until it reaches your hands, and is meant to be removed by the customer themselves before use.
Please enjoy this thoughtful, ritualistic moment.
~Please follow these steps to remove the removable core before use~
1. Locate the white basting stitch at the mid-section (diagonal seam) of the tie.
2. Slowly pull this thread to release the black removable core inside the tie.
3. Gently and carefully pull out the black core visible on the back of the wide end.

Accessories

Ultra-High Density Echizen Woven Label
The brand tag and quality tag used in the product are Echizen woven labels, made by a weaving label manufacturer in Fukui Prefecture with outstanding technology.
In the Sette Piege model, the bar tack position is higher compared to the Tre Piege, so the tag position is adjusted to achieve the most beautiful balance according to this unique design.
We also challenge ourselves to express brand logos, QR codes, and washing instructions at the world's smallest level to convey the high level of Japanese weaving technology. Using ultra-fine threads, we have made repeated improvements so that each character, though small, can be clearly recognized. While it may be something you don't usually pay much attention to, high-level Japanese technology is hidden here too.

Asymmetrical Braided Loop (Kaku Yatsu-gumi × Tsuri Yotsu-gumi)
The loop attached to the back of the tie, also known as the narrow end keeper, is generally made from the same fabric as the tie body.
However, Cocon uses a loop crafted with traditional Japanese kumihimo braiding techniques. This kumihimo loop is meticulously made one by one for Cocon by a long-established kumihimo workshop in Kyoto, making it a completely original specification.
This Sette Piege tie features an asymmetrical loop using two types of kumihimo: Kaku Yatsu-gumi and Tsuri Yotsu-gumi.
While using two types of braids incurs more effort and cost, by intentionally tailoring a symmetrical structure into an asymmetrical one, we express dynamism and freedom.
Furthermore, "asymmetry = incompleteness" symbolizes our desire for continued growth, making this a special specification.
Gift Box

Telescopic Slipcase
The Sette Piege model features a telescopic V-cut box.
This gift box is meticulously crafted one by one by a paper product manufacturer in Hokkaido with exceptional skill. It uses fine paper (FSC forest certified paper) characterized by a gentle hammered pattern emboss reminiscent of small hammer strikes. The brand logo is clear foil-stamped on the top and sides, and the side of the lid is rounded to reveal the side logo.
Furthermore, the interior of the box has a two-layer structure with an inner cardboard partition to prevent the tie from being crushed, and it is gently wrapped with special paper as if enveloped in cloth.
These elements combine to create packaging that not only offers beauty but also the joy of opening it and a protective function for the tie, encapsulating our worldview.
Storage Method
After use, please hang the tie in a well-ventilated, dark place for storage to allow the fabric to dry and wrinkles to restore. Please be aware that direct sunlight can cause discoloration or fading.
Additionally, Sette Piege ties should be hung to prevent contact with other items, to avoid pressure marks on the fabric.
